Qualified Signatures

What are Qualified Signatures?

Qualified Signatures utilise e-IDs from Auðkenni (available in Iceland only) in the signature. Auðkenni is on the European Union's trusted list for digital signatures. Qualified signatures are equivalent to hand written signatures according to Icelandic Act no. 55/2019 on digital authentication and trust services for electronic business.

The signing process with Qualified Signatures?

  1. Document sent for signing digitally
The signee receives an email with a link to start the document signing process.
  2. Document is signed
The signer signs the document using their eID either on their Sim card or on the Auðkenni app.
  3. Signed document is delivered
The signed document is delivered to the sender with the option to deliverer it directly to the senders document management system, and to the signee.

Security measures of Qualified Signatures

With qualified signatures, the strict security requirements for a secure signature device (SSCD - Secure Signature Creation Device) are met when creating a signature. Qualified signatures authenticate the signee with an authentication based on qualified electronic IDs in accordance with the requirements of eIDAS to ensure only the intended recipient can sign the document.

A certified TSA timestamp ensures that the signing time meets eIDAS guidelines and the document is suitable for long-term preservation.

Finally, the document is electronically sealed to ensure the document cannot be manipulated or tampered with after the signing process.
